Event Report: Annan, Eigen and Yunus Launch the Africa Progress Panel in Berlin
Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Transparency International founder Peter Eigen and distinguished guests recently gathered in Berlin to launch the Africa Progress Panel (APP). At its inaugural meeting, APP panelists and attendees stressed that decisive action is needed in order to meet Millennium Development Goals for 2015 in sub-Saharan Africa. The APP seeks to force African governments--as well as their development partners-- to take effective action on achieving Millennium Development commitments by focusing world leaders' attention on issues of governance, security, health, education, economics and finance. The board of directors of the APP includes Annan, Eigen, Nobel Laureate Muhammed Yunus, Bob Geldof, Graça Machel, Robert Rubin and Michel Camdessus.
