Looking for European Citizenship, Citizens for Europe, 17-20 November 2010
Citizens For Europe e.V. would like to inform you about the unique
opportunity for you and your organisation to present and discuss your projects in the field
of European citizenship at our conference “looking for European citizenship”,
taking place from 17 - 20 November 2010 in Berlin, Germany.
Citizens For Europe e.V. is an non-governmental and non-profit association set
up by young individuals from different European countries. Its objectives are to
define and establish a new transnational model of EU citizenship, to promote
political participation rights for EU citizens and third-country nationals and to
raise the public awareness of roles and responsibilities of citizens in Europe.
The conference “looking for European citizenship” will allow stakeholders from
civil society, social science and politics
- to discuss the current status of EU citizenship, to find practical
solutions to
its discriminatory effects,
- to identify new models of citizenship suitable for the transnational
nature of
the EU,
- to develop a strategy to effectively get this model onto the political
agenda.
Beside the three main panels, innovative conference formats and open spaces will
be dedicated to potential as well as established good practices to overcome the discriminatory effects of the current model of European citizenship and raise
awareness about European citizens’ rights.
The purpose of the conference is to create synergies among the organisations
active in the field of European citizenship to successfully put their projects
into practice. Citizens For Europe e.V. also welcomes the presentation of projects that haven’t been successful, in order to learn from past mistakes and encourage new project ideas.
Projects can concern a wide range of issues, from electoral rights for foreigners to antidiscrimination in the housing and labour markets, from campaigns to raise awareness among European citizens about their rights to strategies to put European citizenship on the political agenda.
The call is open for young representatives of organisations that deal or will
deal with issues connected to European citizenship.
We invite you to send in a brief description (no more than one page) of
your project/good practice/standpoint by 15 August. If selected for the conference, you will receive an official invitation by end of August.
We have limited funds to cover travel and accommodation expenses based on need.
Please let us know if your organisation is unable to cover the costs.
