The America Reloaded Series: "The First Black President- Has Martin Luther King Jr.'s Dream Come True?"

For the first time in US history, a black family has moved into the White House. Is Barack Obama’s historic victory a sign of the fact that the United States has finally overcome the legacy of slavery and transformed into a “color-blind” society which judges human beings only by the content of their character, as Martin Luther King put in his famous 1963 speech? What does Obama’s Presidency mean to the black community, especially in troubled inner-city neighborhoods that keep struggling with poverty, violence and unequal opportunity?

We would like to draw your attention to the first event of our discussion series “America Reloaded“ in 2010.

February 9, 2010, 7:00 p.m., HAU1, Stresemannstr. 29, 10963 Berlin

The First Black President: Has Martin Luther King’s Dream Come True?

America Reloaded is proud to present Johnnie Owens, one of the community organizers who worked with Barack Obama in the South Side of Chicago in the early eighties and continues to build communities there at the grassroots level. Join us for a conversation on social justice and the current state of race relations in the United States.

In addition there is jazz and poetry from Jon Sass, the internationally renowned tubist, and Cheo Solder, author and musician from Boston.

You can find further information on our website www.america-reloaded.de

We are looking forward to welcoming you to “America Reloaded“ in the Hebbel Theater.
