The coping mechanisms which have kept US middle-class families afloat since the 1970’s are no longer sufficient. ++ Wages, adjusted for inflation, have barely increased in three decades, so Americans have moved more women into the work force, worked longer, and borrowed extensively. ++ The presidential candidate who recognizes these underlying issues will be most popular amongst American voters.
