Defending Human Rights Isn't Neo-Colonialism

Silence often prevails over the denouncing of atrocities that take place in the Muslim world because the fear of compromising dialogue is huge. ++ Yet, there is a limit to the threshold of acceptance. ++ Even if communication between the Muslim and Western communities is key, when fundamental human rights such as discrimination and violence against women are at stake we cannot close our eyes. ++ We must not do so "should the Afghan President approve the legal reintroduction of domestic rape amongst the Shi'ite community".
