Internship offer

American Institute for Contemporary German Studies offers unpaid internships

AICGS offers unpaid internships to undergraduate and graduate students in spring, summer, and fall. Internships provide a professional and educational experience in a not-for-profit organization that aims to strengthen the German-American relationship. Interns typically are assigned to a particular department of the Institute but are expected to work on projects on a priority basis for the Institute. AICGS Internships aim to:

  • Introduce interns to all aspects (administrative, programming, development, research) of an American non-profit public-policy institute;

  • Involve interns in ongoing AICGS projects and events;

  • Provide opportunity for participation in similar events in Washington, D.C., organized by other policy institutions or think tanks;

Interns will be assigned to the Institutes different departments according to their particular interests: Programs/Publications, Development/ Outreach, Public Policy, Administration/Finance. All interns will be involved in the following tasks:

  • Event management (including contacting participants, event set-up/take-down, event registration and follow-up, publications mailings)

  • Taking notes and writing summaries at AICGS events

  • Daily newspaper clipping

  • Database work

  • Research support for Institute staff and fellows

  • Administrative/Financial project support

  • Interns will be evaluated at mid-point and at the end of their internship and will be asked to provide AICGS with an evaluation of the internship program and their experience at AICGS.
