Assistant Professor of History - University of California, San Diego

The Department of History at the University of California, San Diego, within the Division of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for a tenure-track position in African-American History.

Preference will be given to scholars at the Assistant Professor level but excellent candidates at other levels will be also be seriously considered. Chronological period and specialization are open. We welcome applications that fall under the broad conceptual rubric of the African Diaspora, as well as those with a particular focus on North America. Salary will be commensurate with experience and publications and in general accordance with the published salary schedules of the University of California. Submit electronic version of application letter, teaching evaluations and C.V. Three letters of recommendation should be uploaded electronically by letter-writer. Applicants should include in their cover letter a personal statement summarizing teaching experience, interests and involvement in scholarly fields, and contributions to diversity. Contributions to diversity may include considerations of probable contributions to a diverse campus environment, past or ongoing service to underserved populations, experience with recruitment efforts at the undergraduate or graduate level, and familiarity with or participation in programs aimed at fostering diversity within higher education. Review of applicants will begin November 1 and will continue until position is filled.
