Berlin Office Administrator at Human Rights Watch

Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Berlin Office Administrator with its Operations Department (20 hours/week).

Description:

The Office Administrator will manage and support the operational infrastructure for the Berlin office. HRW is a fast-growing, global organization based in New York City with over 280 full-time staff working in more than 40 countries. Working in conjunction with staff in the Berlin and London office, and our New York-based headquarters, duties will include but are not limited to:

Finance: Managing budgets and bank accounts, bill payments, monthly expense and deposit reports and reconciliations; processing donations and travel reimbursement.

Human Resources: Keeping abreast of German employment law developments; managing the recruitment of German-based staff; maintaining the attendance management database; administering insurance policies and staff benefits.

Administration and Facilities: Undertaking reception duties, general office maintenance and agenda management; responsible for the full stocking of office supplies; answering general post, email and telephone enquiries; filing, photocopying, faxing, maintaining databases and contact lists, report filing and tracking.

Information Technology: Trouble shooting and maintaining the computer network; providing helpdesk support to Berlin-based staff; responsible for back up and upgrading of the IT system when necessary.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, responsible, efficient, detail-oriented, highly organized, flexible, collegial, and able to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks simultaneously. The candidate must be willing to take initiative, prioritize with minimum supervision, and work independently in addition to functioning as a member of a team. The candidate must have solid office/administration experience with an educational background in Finance, Human Resources and/or office administration. Experience of working in the nonprofit sector is desirable. S/he must be fluent in oral and written English and German and additional languages would be a plus. Computer literacy is required (internet, Windows NT, word processing, database and networks.)
