Master of Public Policy: Humboldt-Viadrina School of Governance in Berlin

Master of Public Policy
The Master of Public Policy degree is a joint study programme between the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) and the Humboldt University Berlin, administered through the HUMBOLDT-VIADRINA School of Governance gGmbH.
The Master of Public Policy degree provides engaged and committed future leaders from the worlds of politics, business, civil society and administration with the skills to:
- Develop, implement, and communicate strategies for individual policy areas;
- Bring ideas to life in private, political, or civil society organisations and shape and guide processes of change;
- Conceptualise and implement projects and activities in the public sector and political realms.
Over the course of the four-semester-long study programme, students will learn to:
- Formulate and address complex new questions;
- Move among different dimensions of a complex challenge;
- Proceed effectively with the resources available;
- Integrate the distinct expectations of various stakeholders into one effective solution.
Students will combine their distinct multidisciplinary knowledge and diverse professional experiences in order to address subjects based on their own varied perspectives.
Prerequisites for the MPP
- Excellent completion of a prior higher education degree
- At least 2 years work experience subsequent to receiving degree
- Fluent German and English; additional languages a plus
- A hands-on project already in mind, which deals with or confronts certain issues/problems/questions within a specific organization or institutionAll materials must be submitted for the application to be considered.
Application Materials
- Completed admissions application
- Certificate of higher degree
- Proof of at least two-years work experience
- A list of relevant work and study experiences
- A short explanation of the proposed project in the form of a 3-page exposé, which will include: the professional and academic goals of project implementation, as well as the proposed candidate institution or organization
- One reference from: 1) a practitioner in civil society, government/politics or economics, and 2) an academic/expert in a certain field of study
- Proof of relevant materials submitted as certified copies
- Project proposal (see minimum requirements for the project under ‘hands-on’ project description)
All documents must be submitted in either English or German.

After receipt of all applications, the MPP admissions committee will carefully review the submitted materials. Invitations to the introductory program talks in Berlin will be sent to admitted applicants.
