Nonviolent Peaceforce seeks Project Director, Sri Lanka

Nonviolent Peaceforce is a large-scale international peaceforce composed of trained, unarmed civilians from around the world ready to serve in conflict areas. In partnership with local groups, Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) members apply proven non-violent strategies to protect human rights, deter violence, and help create space for local peacemakers to carry out their work. For its project in Sri Lanka, Nonviolent Peaceforce is seeking to recruit a PROJECT DIRECTOR whose role will involve the following tasks and who should meet the described profile. The position is based in Sri Lanka and supervised by the Programme Director based in Germany. *Tasks:* OVERALL DIRECTION * Leadership and guidance for NP’s field operations in Sri Lanka (mostly in the East and North) * Responsibility for ca. 50 national and international staff in Sri Lanka * Directly overseeing five person Management team in Sri Lanka * Representing NP in meetings with NGOs, INGOs, government and IOs. * Be the link between wider NP and its Sri Lanka Project. PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT * Strategic planning, policy and capacity development and programmatic guidance including the planning, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of the violence prevention, peace and human rights, civilian protection and advocacy activities developed and implemented in cooperation with its local (community and national) and international partner organizations. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT * Financial Oversight * Oversee grants’ management * Develop budget for each new year COMMUNICATION * Act as country representative and spokesperson and maintain bilateral and multilateral relations. * Work with NP’s Communications Director and with the Sri Lankan Communications’ Manager to insure effective communication to/from NPSL * Report to the members of the international NP staff, Board and network FUNDRAISING * Coordinate / initiate fundraising in Sri Lanka in cooperation with the NP Fundraising Department. The PD is to a large extent responsible that the funds for the project are being raised successfully, since most of our donors are based in Sri Lanka. * Oversee reports to funders, and write them if necessary * Visit funders and potential funders * Cooperate with fundraising department on funding applications. *Qualifications and skills:* MUSTS: * Minimum 3 years experience in international projects, at least 2 in a management position * Strong management and supervisory skills demonstrated by at least 3 years experience * Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills * Experience in fundraising with agencies and governments * Understanding of accounting procedures * Competence with internet and new information and communication technologies * Demonstrated ability to cope with the unexpected and work under stress * Demonstrated leadership ability along with teamwork approach * Experience and ability in establishing cooperative relationships with policy leaders in government and the private and non-profit sectors * Significant international experience. * Excellent knowledge of Sri Lanka. * Commitment to non-partisanship in Sri Lankan context * Commitment to, and knowledge and experience of, nonviolence and approaches of nonviolent intervention * English language fluency PREFERRED: * MA degree (or equivalent) or higher in relevant field. * Having lived/worked in Sri Lanka before. * Sinhalese and/or Tamil language skills * Driver’s license and good driving record. * Good writing skills * Knowledge of project evaluation methods *Work environment* This position will be based in Colombo, Sri Lanka Working hours: full time (40 hours) Salary: Between 30.000 and 36.000 USD/annum depending on experience, medical insurance and compensation for long term disability arising from work. *How to apply* Send your application and your CV containing substantive information on your training, skills and work experience by email to Programmeme Director Christine Schweitzer, CSchweitzerNP at aol.com.
