Professor of Applied and Quantitative Methods
The Hertie School of Governance is devoted to the analysis of problems in public policy and governance. Its Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme qualifies students for leadership positions in the public and private sectors as well as in civil society at both the national and international level. It also is initiating an Executive Master of Public Management (EMPM) programme.
The successful applicant is expected to teach courses in the MPP or EMPM programme as well as in Executive Education seminars. In addition, the School’s faculty will contribute, in their respective field of scholarly competence and against the background of their previous work, to research on the changing role of the state and the challenges of modern governance. The position is to be filled by spring 2009.
Applicants for this position should have a doctorate in political science, sociology, or a related discipline, and have demonstrable expertise in the area of research methods for the social and policy sciences. Candidates will be expected to teach graduate- and executive-level courses in quantitative and qualitative methods to public policy and public management students, along with courses in their own substantive fields of research specialisation. Substantive fields are open, but we encourage applications from candidates with specialisations in political sociology, electoral and media research, political economy, policy analysis and evaluation, or international
relations.
Applicants should have:

· Extensive publications in leading social science journals
· A proven record in teaching research methods
Policy experience would also be advantageous. As a professional school, the Hertie School seeks faculty with a commitment to intensive, high-quality teaching and with experience in political advising and the interaction between research and public policy.
All applicants are expected to be professionally fluent in English, the teaching language of the Hertie School. Command of the German language is expected to be acquired over time. The acquisition of
