Program Manager for the European Centre for Conflict Prevention

 

The European Centre for Conflict Prevention (ECCP) is involved in the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC), a global network which aims to strengthen the role of civil society organizations in peacebuilding and conflict prevention. GPPAC is guided by an International Steering Group (ISG). The tasks of Global Secretariat are fulfilled by ECCP.

GPPAC was established in 2002 in response to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's 2001 report on the Prevention of Armed Conflict, in which he urged civil society to organize its role in the field. GPPAC builds on decades of prevention, resolution and peace-building work throughout the world and is organized through fifteen regional networks, each of which has developed an action agenda to reflect regional principles and priorities.

ECCP is currently looking for an individual to fulfill the function of Program Manager for its interaction and advocacy program.

Main Responsibilities Are:

  • Develop and manage ECCP/GPPAC interaction and advocacy program, including finances, planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Coordinate and facilitate functioning of interaction and advocacy Task Force/Reference Group, in particular the work of the GPPAC Secretary General
  • Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the global activities as agreed in the interaction and advocacy program, notably interacting with governments and international organizations
  • Assist and co-organize regional interaction and advocacy activities as agreed in the workplan
  • Liaise with one or more GPPAC regions in particular
  • Support dissemination of lessons learned and other information related to core responsibilities
  • Update interaction and advocacy program section on the GPPAC website
  • Contribute to donor reporting

Applicant Profile: A dynamic political entrepreneur and civil society networker, committed to conflict prevention and peace-building.

Education: University Master's degree preferred in the field of conflict prevention,  international relations, development studies or political science.

Work experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience related to civil society lobby/advocacy, preferably with network organizations in an international setting; project management skills; experience in organizing seminars and workshops; preferably field experience in a conflict-area.

Knowledge: conversant in the context, opportunities and challenges of conflict prevention and peace-building, knowledge about international and regional organizations in relation to peace and security

Languages: Fluent in English, preferably other languages

Skills: outstanding communication skills within complex organizational and cross-cultural environments; able to establish and maintain a professional network of appropriate contacts; shows initiative; proven writing and editing skills; strong project management skills including financial management; planning, monitoring and evaluation skills; ability to reconcile interests and points of view; computer literate

Preferred starting date: December 1, 2008

Location: The Hague, The Netherlands

Conditions: This is a one-year contract, minimally 32 hours a week, with a possibility to extend. ECCP offers good working conditions in a small and flexible organization.
