Call for proposals 2010
The Stiftung Deutsch-Amerikanische Wissenschaftsbeziehungen (SDAW/Foundation German-American Academic Relations) is prepared to fund research groups composed of German and North American scholars, and, where appropriate, other European scholars as well, who propose to explore topics of particular interest for the transatlantic relationship, focusing on international or domestic and comparative issues and/or opening up new methodological approaches. The participation of younger scholars is particularly welcome. Results should be published (also electronically).
Though any topic will be welcome that is of relevance to transatlantic relations, we wish to suggest a number of exemplary topics that in our view would merit special attention:
- U.S. and European Perspectives on the Reform of Global Institution
- Transatlantic Regulatory Harmonization
- Sustainable Economic Policies
- The Legitimacy of Military Peace Making Operations
- State and Market in a New Financial Order
- The Common Challenges and Dilemmas of Transatlantic Society: American and Europeas
- Approaches to Health Care, Energy and/or the Environment
- The Rise of India and China: A New Challenge for the Transatlantic Relationship?
- Integration of Immigrant Communities: American and German Experiences
- Transitions to Post-Industrial Society in Europe and the United States
- The Management of Global Financial Imbalances
Study groups can be funded over a period of 1 - 2 years, but funding requests should not exceed 20.000,- Euro (28.000,- U.S. Dollars). The funding by the Foundation may be renewed depending on the evaluation of the project report. Proposers are encouraged to seek additional funds or stipends from other sources. Support from other foundations or stipends should be specified in the proposal.
Proposers should be scholars from Germany, North America or another European country, holding a Ph.D. and working at a university or a research institution. Six copies of the proposal should be submitted, including:
- a standardized title page (see following page)
- a detailed description of the project (5-6 pages, including a discussion of the projected results)
- details on the academic qualifications of the proposer(s)
- a list of potential study group members
- an action plan (incl. timetable)
- a budget (always at the end of the proposal)
Proposals should not exceed an overall length of 12 pages. Please send proposals bound with filing clips or in clear plastic folders (please do not send brochures, binders or CD-ROMs). Proposals cannot be returned. Incomplete proposals cannot be considered. Decisions on proposals will be made by June 2010. The SDAW is also prepared to consider allocation of small grants for particular projects in the interim.
The closing date for the receipt of proposals is March 31st, 2010.
