The First International Development Conference Of Syria 2010
The Syria Trust for Development is pleased to announce and invite you to the First International Development Conference of Syria 2010/Emerging Role of Civil Society in Development, to be held in from 23 - 25 January, 2010 in Damascus, Syria.
Syria and other countries of the Middle East are facing serious development challenges, including high unemployment rates, persistent illiteracy and poor institutions. However, they also have many assets, such as a large youth population, natural endowments, and a rich culture, which provide them with a window of opportunity to tackle these challenges and improve development outcomes.
While civil society in Syria and most Middle Eastern countries is underdeveloped compared to other regions of the world, it has been playing an increasingly important role alongside governments in supporting development plans and improving development outcomes. Indeed, there are a growing number of practical examples and success stories from the region - both civil society programmes and government efforts - that should be celebrated, shared, and learned from.
The First International Development Conference of Syria 2010 will provide a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences about development projects, both successes and lessons learned, and discussing development policy alternatives.Development practitioners, researchers, policy analysts, and other interested parties are invited to submit papers or case studies for presentation during the conference on development interventions, examples of best practices / lessons learned, studies of innovations in non-profit management, and applied / policy-oriented research on development.
